What yoga is for me...
Yoga, for me, is more than just a physical exercise. While it does provide a safe and gentle way to strengthen and stretch the body, it is so much more than that. The practices discovered and used on the mat, breath work, centering techniques, awareness of the body and mind, can be used when in the "real" world as well. In the adventure of daily life I find it helpful to have tools to find my way back to center, present, and calm. The physical practice of yoga takes me out of my head, away from the plethora of thoughts, and brings me into my body. It is a chance to cultivate nonjudgemental self awareness, get curious about what is showing up in my body, mind, emotions, life, and to explore my abilities which change on a daily basis. My yoga is an exploration of myself and I love sharing this idea with others; taking a break from the hustle and bustle and doing something that feels delicious is just such a treat! I can't wait to share it with you!
Julia Vona-Shea, your instructor...
Practicing yoga since she was 19, Julia instantly loved the way yoga made her feel about herself. What started as a physical practice with the goal of becoming Gumby has blossomed into a way of living. Starting her teacher training in the Iyengar method, Julia has since been introduced to many different approaches to yoga as well as teaching styles. Drawing on the tools and techniques she learned when she received her training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health and the Nosara Yoga Institute, Julia strives to share a playful explorative yoga experience with her students. Spreading the compassion, loving kindness, and nonjudgemental awareness that Kripalu Yoga has brought to her life and her yoga practice.
